5 ways to grow your Instagram followers

Over the last few months my Instagram followers have zoomed up! I know it sounds crazy, but I love taking fun photos, posting them online and getting instant comments telling me that they have been to that place too or they love the item I posted. It’s a really fun way to chat to people online and connect with people all over the world about things you love, whether it’s places, food, make-up, fashion or well, anything!

Sometimes I feel like Twitter has too much ‘Noise’ on it, it seems like there are too many people trying to get me to click their blog / magazine / shop links. Instagram on the other hand doesn’t have links in posts, so it feels like it is full of quality content which makes it really fun and much more inspiring!

I currently have around 18,800 followers and it’s growing all the time, I know there are girls out there with 100,000+ followers, but I can’t help but feel a little proud of my following regardless, I never imagined I would get so many and I love reading everyones comments and seeing everyones photos each day. I thought it might be fun to share some tips and tricks of how to grow your instagram followers.

Great Content!

I know it sounds obvious, but great content is key to helping you grow your followers. There is no point posting boring pictures of boring things; if you don’t care, then nor will your followers, it also won’t inspire anyone new to tap that ‘follow’ button. Keep the content exciting and varied. Personally, I love to post pictures of fashion, beauty, lifestyle and food. I like to mix up my content, for instance, I might post one picture of my current favourite make-up products, followed by a picture of my desk. The first photo will appeal to all the beauty junkies who follow me, the second pictures will appeal to girls who love stationary and home design. Mixing up the content will help to keep your account fresh and exciting. Don’t keep posting the same picture with slightly different filters, it’s not interesting for your followers. Not all pictures have to be perfect, I will take photos which are slightly out of focus, or a little too dark if the thing I am posting about it amazing. For example, I recently staying in a hotel and my room had a aquarium built into the wall! It was crazy hard to take a good picture of it, but I had to share it! It’s just not every day your hotel room has an aquarium separating the bathroom and lounge!

Don’t Be Afraid To Hashtag!

Some people thing hashtags are lame, but quite frankly, how are people meant to find you if you don’t hashtag things. For instance, I love the designer Vivetta, if I post a picture of my Vivetta X Claudie Pierlot handbag, I want anyone who also loves Vivetta to see my picture if they search for the #Vivetta. After all, if they love the designer as much as me, perhaps they will like other designers I love too! Also, don’t forget to tag the brand in the picture, you never know, you might just get a regram!

Be Social!

It’s social media, so be social! You can’t just post a picture on Instagram and expect 100,000 people love it! Find like-minded people and follow them, comment and like their pictures and build a community for yourself. I found some really cool people on instagram by searching through hashtags and finding cool pictures, if I click on the profile and like what I see I press follow. Sometimes they follow me back, sometimes they don’t but either way, it’s nice to be social on instagram and it’s fun and inspiring looking at other people’s photos. I have Instagram friends all around the world and it’s fun chatting to them about our new handbags and shoes! Recently, I loved following @NicoletteMason’s wedding, I have way too many matching handbags with @jadorefashion and @MeetMeInParee always seem to eat breakfast at the same time each day. It’s fun!

Promote!

Promote your Instagram on your other social media platforms, share a link on your twitter, Facebook, blog, tumblr, whatever you use! If people follow you on other platforms, they might want to follow you on Instagram too, they might not even know you use the platform unless you tell them!

Keep going! 

Rome wasn’t built in a day and nor is a strong Instagram account! Keep posting great pictures, keep chatting to your friends and instagram friends and have fun with it! Like all social media platforms, you have to enjoy it, otherwise it will be obvious to your followers and boring.
