How To Have A Sublime Picnic With Galaxy Vanilla Ice Cream

One of my favourite things about Summer is having a picnic, which is why I teamed up with Galaxy Vanilla Ice Cream to share my top tips on hosting a sublime picnic!

Location

A beautiful picnic needs to be held in a beautiful location! Whether it’s your garden, the woods or the park, pick your location carefully. Avoid busy roads and smelly bins, instead try and find quiet little spot by some pretty flowers and lush grass. I would always choose to sit under a tree and then your guests have the option of sitting in the sun or the shade and if you have any spare bunting, you can hang it off the branches of the tree, not only will it look pretty, but your guests will see the picnic from a far!

Splash Out!

Let’s be honest, a table at a good restaurant doesn’t come cheap and just because you are dining in a park, doesn’t mean you need to pinch pennies! Go to your favourite supermarket or deli and buy your favourite loaves of bread, to serve with the best cheese, salads, fruits, wine, fancies and of course, Galaxy Vanilla Ice Cream! You can’t have a fabulous picnic without fabulous food!  Serve the food on real plates with real cutlery, since you don’t want to take your best china plates to the park, instead opt for a selection of vintage style plates and bowls, lots of different prints and designs which will look beautiful and exciting! If you are worried about transporting plates safely, wrap each one loosely in yesterdays newspapers and keep the newspaper in the hamper so you can rewrap the plates to carry home.

Comfort

One picnic blanket is never enough! There should be space for everyone to sit and spread out as well as plenty of room for all the delicious food! Pack plenty of picnic blankets and maybe even some old floor cushions too, so people can sit for the whole afternoon in comfort and really relax! If anyone gets a little chilly as dusk falls, you can even use any spare rugs as blankets. Also packing suncream is always a good idea, you wouldn’t want any of your friends to go home early with sunburn and hand wipes are always good for sticky finger emergencies!

Entertain!

If you are inviting friends with children, make sure you have something for them to do, don’t be afraid to pack a ball, colouring book and pens or any other activities for the children. After all, happy children = happy parents! Even if you don’t have children in tow, it can be a great idea to bring a deck of playing cards so you and your guests can play card games after lunch. Bring a camera to capture the memories and create a hashtag that is unique to your picnic, like ‘#FFLSummerPicnic’, that way all your friends can easily access any pictures which are captured throughout the day!

Desert

No picnic is complete without a delicious desert and Galaxy Vanilla Ice Creams are the ideal summer treat!
