Jo Loves

Jo Loves was founded in 2013 by ‘English scent maverick’ Jo Malone MBE and it is the latest chapter in her perfume journey. Jo Malone founded the iconic perfumery, Jo Malone London which she built up over many years and eventually sold to Estée Laurder in 1996. She remained working there as Creative Director until 2006 when she left the company. Her passion for perfumery never disappeared and two years ago for a significant birthday, her husband bought her a shop and told her to do what she loved once again. Jo Loves is a collection of fragranced colognes, candles, bath and body products, all of which are inspired by moments and memories in her life.

Candle Shot

The Candle Shot Studio is an exciting new innovation by Jo Loves. It allows the customer to become part of the creative process and make a candle which is unique to the user. It has a patent pending and it is a really new and exciting concept. You select a base scent and select a shot scent which are fused together to make a full candle. As you burn the candle you are first hit with the scent of the shot part of the candle, then as the candle burns down and the wax melts, the scent of the base wax is introduced. It’s exciting to have a home scent which is not only unique to you, but as it burns down, the fragrances changes as the new base scent is introduced.

Decisions

I recently visited the Candle Shot Studio and met Jo Malone, she kindly made me a candle and it was such a dun experience. I spent so long figuring out which two scents to choose for my candle, I smelt each one and they were all so beautiful I would have been happy with any of them. The bases and the shots have been designed so that each and every combination smells great together. Eventually, I picked Charcoaled Lemon as my base scent, as it was so warm and fresh with a wonderful hint of sweetness to it. I selected Fig Trees as my Shot scent, as I loved the warm, sweet fig mixed with the green, woody stem of the tree. I was nervous they wouldn’t work together as I have never smelt a Fig and Lemon scent before, but true to the concept of all shots and bases working together, this combination does smell beautiful. If you are able to visit the Jo Loves boutique in London, you can experience the candle shop studio where you can paint the scent onto paper and try the fragrances that way. If you are not London based, you can buy online and you won’t be disappointed with your choice as each and every fragrance combination smells fresh, natural and delicious.

My Thoughts

I love my Jo Loves Candle Shot, it’s a beautiful scented candle which comes with an amazing creative experience and it is something which you cannot get anywhere else. The single fragrances are fresh, clear and beautiful, yet, combined they are even more special. I am extremely tempted to book my mother in to create her own as I know she would love the experience as much as I did.  If I do book her an appointment, I hope it would be on a day where Jo Malone is roaming around as she spends a lot of her time in the store as I know meeting the lady herself really added to my experience!
