When it comes to make-up, lipstick is my everything. Nothing else makes quite the same impact, so quickly and so easily! This post is all about lips and some of my favourite lipsticks and lip products.
Before we get started on lip colour, it’s important to keep your lips and skin around your lips in great condition.
Hydrate
It’s important to keep lips hydrated with a good Lipbalm. Personally, I always opt for a natural Lipbalm as I was once told petroleum is a lubricant for industrial use and not for your lips. Personally I love a shea butter or lanolin based lip balm like Lanolips. The great thing about Lanolips is that it is a multi-purpose moisturiser and you can use it on your lips and any other dry skin you might have.
Protect
Maybe it’s because I am getting older, but recently I have been working hard to protect the skin around my lips as those smile lines are only going to get worse. I have written many, many times about how much I love Dermalogica’s Multi-vitamin Power Firm cream. You can use it on lines around the eyes and mouth, it’s pretty much the best cream ever!
Gloss
Michael Kors has recently launched a make-up line and this coral colour Lip Luster is perfect for the Summer. It is a beautiful shade of pinky peach and gives a high shine look without feeling sticky on the lips. I’m not normally into lip glosses, but this is one I love as the colour is super cool and the finish is beautiful. Perfect for days when you are wearing lots of eye make up but still want your lips too look good, but not pop!
Moisturising Lipstick
If your lips are feeling dry and you want to wear lip balm rather than lipstick, this DHC Moisture Care Lipstick is perfect. It is super moisturising and hydrating but gives a little colour to the lips. It’s more of a tinted lip balm than a lipstick and it really does hydrate your lips!
Hot Pink
Is it obvious from all the different mentions of this Illamasqua lipstick that I absolutely adore the colour and love the heavily pigmented effect. It’s the perfect shade of hot pink and a really great finish too. Hot pink lipsticks can be hard to find, this shade is called Eurydice and it’s great!
Bold Red
With so many red lipsticks on the market, it can be hard choosing the right shade for you. I always opt for a bold, neutral red, or a blue based red (never really understood this term, but basically a more pinky red than an orangey red) as I am blonde with fair skin. Girls with darker hair and a warmer complexion can pull off a orange based red, which is a colour I love, but I can’t pull off myself. This Lipstick by Smashbox is called Legendary and it is one of their hero shades. I love the colour, tone and finish of this lipstick. This is a neutral red, so it will work on most skin tones. It is heavily pigmented to give a great colour and it lasts really well too.
Plum
I’m super late to the party with this one, but Charlotte Tilbury make up is amazing! Instead of shopping shades, you shop looks. This lipstick and lipliner is from the Vintage Vamp look and I love the colour. I have been experimenting with #kyliejennerlips recently and while I don’t want the balloon effect she has (lip plumpers?!) I would like a slightly fuller lip and this lipliner and lipstick combo are perfect! The colour isn’t one I use every day, but I love it for evenings when I want a more dramatic look! If you have the guys to go plum, it’s such an awesome look.
Ombre Lips
A big trend for lips recently has been ombre lipstick. When I first heard this term I panicked and assumed it would be a super dramatic finish, but fear not, it is a super subtle trick to give a little extra fullness to your lips. This Topshop Ombre Lips kit gives you two lipsticks which are perfectly selected to give you ombre lips. You apply the darker shade all over your lips and then dab the lighter shade in the middle of your lips. It’s super subtle but gives the effect of curvature and fullness to the lips. It’s basically contouring for lips. This is a great little set to carry around in your handbag as it’s two shade in one set.
Shoes & Bag
When I realised I had a lipstick motif make up bag and lip motif shoes, I knew I had to include them in this post. If I hunted around my flat for long enough, I would probably find some other fun things too, but for now, I will just share these two! My make-up bag is super cute, it is by Lulu Guinness and it is exclusive to ASOS Beauty, the size is perfect for my make up and the lipstick on the front is so glittery! My Shoes are by Charlotte Olympia, I had to have them!
