dunhill have a new creative director, John Ray. Under his influence the brand is about to see some major changes which promise to be really exciting and breathe a whole new lease of life into the brand. In line with these changes, dunhill have created a new fragrance which perhaps hint at the new direct of the brand.
Bottle
This is quite a special bottle. It is thick, heavy glass which is encased in textured metal. It’s a statement bottle and it’s actually really heavy to hold. If you man has a bad habit of leaving his scent in sunlight, I can imagine this bottle would protect the scent from spoiling.
For Him
dunhill’s Icon is a beautiful new scent for a man, it is a wood and citrus based scent which is fresh and masculine.
Top Notes: Bergamot and Neroli
Heart Notes: Black Pepper, Lavender and Cardamom.
Base Notes: Oud, Vetiver, Oak moss and Leather.
My Thoughts / His Thoughts
dunhill is not a brand I know much amount about, so I had no preconceived ideas about the brand or scent. From first spray I loved it; the top note of bergamot really hits you with that clean, fresh, citrus scent. Then I can smell the black pepper and lavender, which add warmth and spice to the scent. As for the base notes, I love the blend of oud, vetiver and leather. They add real depth and smokiness to the scent and balance the bergamot perfectly. My boyfriend always smells good (even my mum has noticed that he always smells lovely!), so if it didn’t smell great, he wouldn’t wear it. He loves this scent and he wears it often. He loves the clean, freshness of Icon and he tends to wear it after a wet shave and when he is off to a meeting. It’s a day scent rather than an evening for him and it’s fresh and clean with lovely woody undertones. He doesn’t really care either way what the bottle looks like, but he seems to think it’s quite unusual (in a good way). It reminds us both of Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet, which is another bergamot scent we both love.
