A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting Susan Caplan in her studio. Oh Lordy! What a treasure trove! I literally could have spent hours there, rummaging through drawers of the most incredible vintage designer jewellery.
Collector
Never heard of Susan Caplan, well listen up! She started many years ago as an antiques collector, just buying items for her home, she collected so many things she had to start selling them. For a few years, She bought and sold beautiful antiques, until fate lent a hand and she started buying and selling vintage designer costume jewellery.
Jewels
Susan Caplan has the most incredible collection of vintage costume jewellery. Imagine vintage Chanel, Givenchy, Celine, Trifari, Swarovski, Versace, YSL and Valentino, to name just a few! Susan Caplan sources rare and beautiful costume jewellery by the worlds top designers and delivers them to her customers. She only deals in the best designers and it is always in mint or pretty-darn-close-to-perfect condition, you will not find any missing crystals, scratches or tarnishing to any Susan Caplan jewellery, if it’s not fabulous, she doesn’t sell it. While the jewellery might be classed as ‘costume’, the quality and craftsmanship is not to be underestimated. All the designers used top quality metals, crystals, leather, settings and findings, so the quality of the piece is perfect and the construction was done just as if they were setting diamonds into gold.
Boutique
At the moment there is a vintage Chanel boutique on the Susan Caplan website and I must admit, there are many pieces I am tempted to buy! I often hop over the to the website just to browse all the beautiful pieces as some of them are so rare and unusual, it’s a treat just to look at them all, even when I can’t afford to buy.
ASOS
Another part of the Susan Caplan brand is her exclusive line for ASOS, again it is vintage jewellery in pristine condition, but this time it is not designer pieces. The quality is beautiful, the designs are great, but they are not quite so luxe and they are not made by fashion houses. They are also a fraction of the price and sold exclusively through ASOS.
Thanks to Susan Caplan and her team for letting me sift through your treasures!
These pieces are so gorgeous!
