Perfume: Annick Goutal ‘Rose Absolue’

Annick Goutal 'Rose Absolue' review perfume

I’m obsessed with Rose perfumes, I can’t help myself, I just go nuts for the stuff! A lot of people don’t think they like the smell of roses, because there are some bad smelling rose products out there. A lot of brands have created ‘Rose’ scented beauty products which have never even seen a rose, so what you are smelling is actually a lot of artificial ingredients which are designed to smell vaguely like a rose. Generally, these don’t smell very nice at all. A beautiful rose perfume (or beauty product) needs to be made using top quality Rose Absolute (the purest essential oil which comes from a rose), if the perfume is made using poor quality rose absolute, or worse still, no rose absolute, it won’t smell beautiful, it might even smell bad.

Some rose perfumes are made using a blend of Rose Absolute and other essential oils, like amber, vanilla, sandalwood, jasmine, to name a few and other Rose perfumes are made to have just the single scent of roses. Rose absolute is one of the most expensive essential oils you can buy, so you will never find a cheap rose perfume, with rose perfumes, you get what you pay for and in my opinion, it’s worth spending the extra cash.

Smell the Roses

I have blogged about Annick Goutal before, both my boyfriend and I love their scents and I’m starting to build myself a little library of their beautiful perfumes! We first discovered the collection when we were in New York and once back in London we discovered they sell the collection in Liberty. I wear a rose scented perfume nearly every day and at the moment, my current favourite is Annick Goutal ‘Rose Absolue’.

East and West

Rose Absolue, is really special, it is actually a blend of 6 different types of roses;  May rose, Bulgarian rose, Turkish rose, Damascus rose, Egyptian rose and Moroccan rose. Each rose is from a different part of the world and has a slightly different scent. Blended together, they create a really beautiful, heady rose scent. It smells so natural, like you are walking through a rose garden on a summers day. All you can smell is roses, but all the roses! From the fresh buds and the green plants, to the rich, heavy scent of a full bloom. It’s green and fresh, while being warm, full and musky.

This perfume is like a million perfect roses bottled; it’s beautiful and I adore it! If you love rose perfumes, I think you will love this delightful perfume too. You can buy it online or pop into a stockist such as Liberty London.

Me too, I love a rose scent – my signature scent is Chloe.

This one sounds perfect, it’s just that pesky £151.00 price tag…

I really have to try that perfume. I totally agree that there are some bad smelling rose scents out there but if the quality is high then I love them!

You’re most welcome. House of Fraser seem to stock the best range (I think Serge Lutens was exclusive to them until more recently) – buying directly from France always seems to be a bit of a treat, once you’ve found the ones you like 🙂 SL is my favourite perfume brand.
