I’m not massively into New Years Resolutions, I tend to break them pretty quick because I over estimate my will-power. That said, New Year is a great time to shake things up and make a few small changes which will hopefully make an impact to your life. So with that in mind, I thought I would put together a post of small of small changes we can all make in our daily lives. Hopefully if we stick to them, we can be slightly healthier and happier!
Walk More
Sometimes it’s just too easy to hop in the car and drive somewhere, when actually it takes just as much time to drive there. Once you have started the engine, sat in traffic and found a parking place, it can take 20 minutes to go a mile. It also takes about 20 minutes to walk that same distance. So consider walking into town, work, lunch or wherever you are going, especially at the weekend.
Buy a Sports Bra
Everyone goes out and buys new trainers, but the chances are, your trainers from last January are still in pretty good condition. Your sports bra on the other hand, might be a whole different situation and even if you have one, it is always good to have a spare as there is nothing worse than doing exercise in a non-supportive bra. My current favourite sports bra is by Chantelle and it is probably the best sports bra I have ever had. It is comfortable and supportive, and it looks nice too. Once you have a good bra and a good pair of trainers, you are slightly closer to going to the gym or for a jog!
Popcorn
I’m a long time fan of popcorn, but in recent months I have been trading in the popcorn for crisps… not clever! Popcorn is a great alternative to crisps, it’s far lower in fat and carbs, it’s actually more filling too and there is way more flavours to choose from! Personally, I love Propercorn’s Sweet & Salty, but I also love their Sour Cream & Chive.
Cook More
I’m not a great cook, but I have a few dishes I can make and if I am honest, they are super easy and taste great! Cooking is pretty fun once you get into it, it is also far cheaper and healthier than buying the equivalent ready made from the supermarket. So consider making a soup, stew or pasta sauce, try to keep it simple and delicious! If you make too much, you can always have it the next day for lunch or freeze it!
More Herbal Teas, Less Coffee
Last January, I decided to quit coffee, it didn’t go so well! On the 1st January, I woke up and totally forgot I wasn’t meant to drink coffee, so I made myself one. About half way through drinking it I remembered I had quit it, but I figured I may as well finish the cup and start the next day. The following day, I remembered my resolution to quit coffee and instead I had a cup of herbal tea and I was miserable all day. By the 3rd January, I was back drinking coffee and I was over the New Years Resolution. So my advice is, still drink your morning coffee, but try and drink herbal teas in the afternoon and evening. We all know how bad too much coffee is and we all know how good green and herbal teas are, so mix things up!
