Let’s talk about… Gorilla Perfume!

I first became away of Gorilla Perfumes a few years ago when they had a small shop in East London. It was pretty cool and the girls in the shop were always super friendly and helpful, I loved going in, sometimes just to chat and hang out! Gorilla Perfumes is part of Lush Cosmetics, it is perfume for girls who want something a little less traditional and a little more fun!

Taking inspiration from music, Gorilla Perfume release ‘albums of fragrance’, with the perfumes depicting the songs which make up the record. Each perfume has a different mood and beat, just like the songs on an album, do you want the pop songs or the avant garde album tracks?!

Gorilla Perfumes have just released Volume 3; Death, Decay and Renewal. Don’t worry, none of these perfumes smell like rotting bodies, instead, they are inspired by books, forgotten heroes and heroines, films, poetry, family members, the past, memories, celebration and the dark space where you consider life and death.

Each perfume takes you on a journey, I experienced it with an incredible instillation they made for their last press day, it is hard to describe, so the best thing to do, it head to the Lush website and see the collection of perfumes for yourself and pop in store to give them a smell!

Floris ‘Honey Oud’

I’m turning into such a perfume geek and my current perfume obsession is oud.

Oud oil comes from Agarwood, which is one of the most expensive woods in the world and the oil is extremely rare and sought after. For years Agarwood incense has been burnt in Chinese, Japanese and Arabian festivals, and the oil has been used to make Arabian perfumes. It’s only recently oud has become popular in the UK and I am a massive fan!

Floris was founded in 1730 by Juan Famenias Floris and his wife Elizabeth. The company is still family owned and run and they are proud to say they are the oldest operating perfumeries in the UK and one of the oldest in the world. Floris hold two Royal Warrants and have two London stores; Jermyn Street and Ebury Street, Belgravia. Two of the most prestigious locations in London. Their perfumes are sold in Harrods, Fortnum & Mason and Peter Jones. They also offer a bespoke service to their clients, this is no average perfumery, Floris is very special.

For those who are not so familiar with oud, it is a rich, heavy, woody scent. Personally, I like it best when it is balanced with a sweeter scents, like amber, honey or rose. When I heard about Floris London’s new scent, Honey Oud, I could’t wait to give it a try! This perfume combines sweet honey, vanilla and rose with strong, heavy oud. Perfect!

This perfume is fabulous. It’s rich, woody and sweet with the oud, vanilla and honey. I can pick up the rose oil and it’s got slightly spicy notes too. I absolutely adore this perfume, because I love fragrances that smell rich, complex and fabulous. It’s exotic, warm and heady and I can’t get enough of it!

Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire ‘Rose Velours’

Oh! how I adore roses. I love that rich, warm, heady smell. It’s just so dreamy!

Recently, I have been wearing Van Cleef & Arpels ‘Rose Velours’ from their Collection Extraordinaire. Van Cleef & Arpels are a French Fine jewellery brand who were founded in 1896. They are an iconic luxury brand who have adorned the necks of women such as Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor. The brand are known for their super-luxe jewels, in particular, their flower shaped charm. Flowers inspire their jewellery as well as their perfumes.

If Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery is good enough for Elizabeth Taylor (the Queen of jewels!), then their perfumes are good enough for me! Especially one which contains Rose Absolute, the most precious extract from my favourite flower scent, the Rose. This perfume is a beautiful blend of rose absolute, sweet honey and wood, with a touch of citrus and violet. I feel like there might be a slight drop of oud in there too, which is another favourite of mine.

I absolutely adore this perfume, it’s fabulous and delicious. It smells so rich and perfect, every note is crystal clear and they balance well with each other. The scent jumps around a lot and you pick up different notes, but the rose is always perfectly at the forefront of this perfume. Every drop of this perfume is precious, it lasts all day and it is fabulous!

NARCISO Eau de Parfum

narciso eau de parfum perfume

I go nuts for the scent of roses, I’m not really a floral kind of girl, but there’s something about the rose fragrance I just adore. From room scents to body oils, I love roses! When the people at NARCISO contacted me and asked if I wanted to try the new perfume NARCISO Eau de Parfum, I thought I would try it out, as I read it has roses in it!

NARCISO is the new scent from Narciso Rodriguez, it is designed to be an extremely sexy perfume that ‘makes mens heads turn’. It is made up of rose, white florals, vetiver, musk and cedar wood, this is the perfume where florals meet wood. When I first sprayed it on, I found it too floral for my taste, it was the white flowers I could smell and not the roses. After a few minutes of my skin, it transformed and the rose, musk and woody tones came out and I started to really love it. It is clean and fresh while still smelling like rose and wood, which is lovely and a little less heavy than most rose perfumes.

I actually love this perfume, but only after a few minutes, as it needs time to settle on my skin and transform. Once it has settled, the rose is delightful and it is really nice and musky and woody. If I spray this onto my skin, I love it, but if it on my dress  or coat, it’s way too floral for me and just not my taste. It’s amazing how different it is on skin compared to not on skin. Perhaps on other people it remains floral and the rose and woods don’t come out as much. I would recommend popping into your local stockist soon (I know Selfridges sell it) and try it out, make sure you test it on your skin, not on the card, as it changes dramatically on me. I really love this perfume!

A little treat…

jimmy choo perfume free clutch bag

I get a *lot* of emails sent to me from brands and PR Companies, I sift through them on a daily basis to find the information which I think is the most exciting and interesting! Recently I got an email from the lovely people who look after Jimmy Choo’s perfume and I thought this was a really cool offer which is well worth hearing about.

For a limited time only, if you buy a bottle of 60ml (and 100ml) Jimmy Choo Eau de Toilette, you will get a free clutch bag. The clutch is small, black and glitzy and actually really cute! Available at Debenham’s while stocks last… you’re welcome!

Agent Provocateur ‘Fatale’

Agent Provocateur underwear is great quality and so is their perfume. I used to always wear Maitresse, I loved it’s powdery and vintage scent, but I think it was eventually discontinued. When I was asked if I would like to try out Agent Provocateur’s new scent ‘Fatale’, I jumped at the chance, as I loved Maitresse and I was keen to see what was new from the brand.

Agent Provocateur Fatale perfume

‘Fatale’ is inspired by the the 1940’s Hollywood femme fatale; mysterious, seductive and elegant. From the faceted glass bottle, to the scent itself, this perfume is fabulous, dark, sweet and luxurious. I have been wearing it for the last few weeks and I really adore it, it is exactly what I want from an Autumn/Winter perfume and it lasts all day and the scent lingers on my silk scarves and jumpers.

This perfume has top notes of Madagascan pink pepper, Mago nectar and Blackcurrent. Heart notes of Gardenia, Royal Orris Absolute and Indonesian patchouli. The base notes are musk, vanilla and cocoa.

This perfume is fabulous. Personally, I really pick up on the blackcurrent, musk, powdery patchouli and just a hint of the chocolatey cocoa. It’s unusual and fabulous! Normally ‘sexy’ perfumes are all about flowers and softness, but this is richer, fruiter and darker. I love it! Definitely worth popping into your local branch of Agent Provocateur or Selfridges to try it out!
