A few months ago when I was in New York I popped into the Annick Goutal store on Bleecker street. It’s ironic as Annick Goutal is a French brand and I go to Paris a lot, it is also sold in Liberty in London (again, somewhere I go often) so it is funny to discover the brand while I was in New York. I am writing to you about a new collection of perfumes, by the name of ‘Dear Rose‘. Inspired by the different facets of women, five different women, or just one women, depending on who she is at that moment.
Each perfume in the collection is inspired by a story of a woman:
A Capella; An early morning visit to the garden. A breath of fresh air mixed with morning dew, moss, rose buds and violets. The first burst of sunlight, fresh sheets and no make up. Singing without music, pure and powerful.
I Love My Man; Fresh, perfect, red Bulgarian roses. Whispers of cinnamon and tonka bean. A gift from a man who adores his woman, the scent of love and adoration. Warm, lovely, engulfing.
Bloody Rose; This perfume is a women you may or may not want to be. The women you must be careful of, she seems pleasant at first glance, but you must be careful of her. For her, enticing men is a sport. White roses which are pretty and linger on the skin.
Sympathy For The Sun; A footprint on the beach, a sea breeze and an air of fabulous. This perfume is a woman enjoying the afternoon sun in a Mediterranean get-away. Fresh, salty, carefree and fabulous.
La Favorite; A warm, smoky bar in a fabulous hotel on a Winter’s night in Paris. The lingering smell of leather, oud, spice, cocktails and grandeur. Black dresses, fabulous jewels and a rich, smoky perfume to match.
Dear Rose, is a new perfume brand which is the creation of a mother and daughter, Chantal and Alexandra. Alexandra, the daughter, is a musician. Chantal, the mother an expert in the fragrance industry. Starting at YSL in the 70s, later working with Helmut Newton and JPG. While she knows the perfume industry inside out, she still has passion, love and romance to perfumery. Together they created the brand and work with award winning perfumer, Fabrice Pellegrin, on their scents.
Where can you buy Dear Rose perfumes? Harrods of course, probably my favourite place for discovering new perfume brands. Shout out to their perfume buyers, they have amazing taste. I love their perfume rooms!
I remember the first time I ever smelt Hermes ‘Caleche’ Perfume. I was at the Eurostar in Paris, we had about 40 minutes until we boarded our train, if you have ever been to Gare du Nord in Paris, you will know there is not much to do in their departure lounge. Hell, on a busy day, you can barely find a seat, let alone something to keep you entertained! We decided to go and spend 5 minutes smelling perfumes, but as I looked around the shelves, my eyes were drawn to all the cheap high street perfumes and I discreetly said to my friend, ‘There’s nothing for me here!’. Snobby? Yes, I can be. Especially when it comes to perfumes!
Always the optimist, my friend insisted I smelt some perfumes, she figured there must be something here I liked. She pulled out the classic crowd pleasers; Kenzo, Marc Jacobs etc. I dismissed them for being too well known. She then pulled our ‘Caleche’ by Hermes and told me it was one of her favourite ever perfumes. I sprayed the card and fell in love! This perfume is dreamy! With top notes of bergamot, orange and jasmine. Heart notes of rose, ylang-ylang and iris. It’s woody, musky, citrusy and smells like old school glamour. I have the Eau de Parfum and the Eau de toilette, personally I do prefer the slightly heavier scent of the EDF and I’m convinced it lasts longer and smells a little more full bodied. I would pay a little extra and get the EDP. If you like something a little lighter the EDT would be better for you. While the ETD is slightly lighter than the EDP, it’s by no means ‘light’, it’s still a beautiful rich perfume. I would probably buy the EDT as a gift, but I would want the EDP for me! (Available from Harvey Nichols & Selfridges).
Everything about this perfume oozes class and glamour. It’s a classic and it’s fabulous!
It was my boyfriend who first introduced me to the Acqua di Parma brand. He loves their colognes and often takes me to their counter to buy supplies. I think for this reason I thought of them as quite a masculine brand, but I’m so wrong!
Acqua di Parma make many feminine scents, including their latest launch, Rosa Nobile Eau de Parfum. I think we all know I’m obsessed with Rose fragrances and I go crazy for that rich, warm scent. Both dark and sweet, I love it.
Acqua di Parma Rosa Nobile is pretty much my perfect rose perfume. While this perfume is new on the market, I think the brand tapped into their rich heritage to create it. Is has the feel of a classic perfume that has existed for 50 years, somehow it smells traditional, yet modern. Rose is mixed with Bergamot, Mandarin and Peony, Violet and Lily of the valley. There are also base notes of Cedar wood, Ambergris and Musk.
I adore this perfect rose perfume, it is everything I have been looking for in a rose fragrance and I adore it! For those who love perfumes but are not looking for a rose based scent, check out Acqua di Parma’s other feminine scents.
If you are looking for something for your man, try out the mens range, my boyfriends favourite is Colonia. It’s a real winner!
I’m so obsessed with perfume. Here’s my latest find!
Boucheron was established in 1893 as a jewellery house. Famed for their contemporary designs and loved by the wealthy women of Paris and the world. It seems only fitting Boucheron would eventually want to create perfumes which match the opulence of their jewellery and watches.
Boucheron Place Vendôme Eau de Toilette is inspired by early mornings in Paris; rooftops, flowers, fresh breeze and early morning sun. With top notes of Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom and Rose Essence. Heart notes of Peony, Jasmin Petals and Honey. Base notes of Cedarwood, Benjoin. This perfume is floral, woody and fresh. It’s sweet without being sickly, light without being boring and floral without being overpowering.
It’s very pretty, very feminine and really ladylike. It’s really lovely, it’s not the kind of perfume I usually wear, but I love how feminine it is, if you like floral, pretty perfumes, this is perfect for you as it is super classy!
