Miller Harris ‘Scherzo’

“…She walked on, between kaleidoscopic peonies massed in pink clouds, black and brown tulips and fragile mauve stemmed roses, transparent like sugar flowers in a confectioner’s window – until, as if the scherzo of colour could reach no further intensity, it broke off suddenly in mid-air.”

-F. Scott Fitzgerald

Miller Harris ‘Scherzo’ fragrance perfume review

In Review…

I have such a *thing* for Miller Harris perfumes, but I think it’s their collection ‘The Perfumer’s Library’ which really steals my heart. The fragrances in this collection were never actually intended for general release, it was more a passion project of Lyn Harris, but they were so popular amongst everyone who sampled them, that eventually it was decided that they would release them in a small number of locations. The latest two releases from Miller Harris will be part of ‘The Perfumers Library’ collection, both fragrances,  Scherzo and Tender are inspired by the classic Fitzgerald novel, ‘Tender Is The Night’.

Of the two new fragrances, Scherzo is undoubtably my favourite. It reminds me a little of a mix between Rose Silence and L’ Air de Rien, which just so happen to be two of my most treasured Miller Harris perfumes. Rose Silence is a stunning interpretation of a rose, it holds all the romance and purity of a perfect red rose, but it’s also very fresh and modern with notes of tangy blackcurrant and juicy mandarin. Where as L’ Air de Rien is the fragrance which Lyn Harris created for Jane Birkin. It’s inspired by the warmth of her husbands embrace and old books, it’s romantic in a nostalgic way, as well as a sexual way. Scherzo, has the same accords of libraries, old books, sensuality and sweet vanilla as L’ Air de Rien, which effortlessly blends with the rose, patchouli and citrus which are also found in Rose Silence. Much like Tender Is The Night the novel this fragrance is inspired by, Scherzo feels timeless. I love the dusty, vintage notes of powdery rose and peony, it reminds me of compact powders and silk dressing gowns, this gloriously mixes with the reminders of old books, smoky oud and embers. The vanilla keeps it slightly sweet and pretty, the tangerine adds freshness, but mostly, it’s the scent of nostalgic florals, books and oud. What can I say, Scherzo has stolen my heart and if you love rose and oud as much as me, I think you will love it too!

Miller Harris Scherzo will be released in January 2018, alongside Tender which is also inspired by the Fitzgerald novel, ‘Tender Is The Night’.
