Easy Ways To Elevate Your Everyday Life!
Sometimes we don’t have the time, energy or budget to make major differences in our living space or lifestyles. It’s not easy to suddenly find a few thousand pounds to take a dream holiday, or find the time in the week to do charity work, or even redecorate. Especially when living in London, working a
36 60 hour a week job and earning barely enough to cover the rent. Believe me, I’ve been there. But there are a few shall shifts you can make to help elevate your every day and feel a bit better about yourself, life and just make everything feel a little more lovely. My friends, here are some easy ways to elevate your every day life!
It makes me feel a little bit sad when people buy expensive perfumes to save for special occasions, surely you deserve to feel (and smell) amazing every day!? Here’s my advice, wear your favourite perfume every day and when the bottle runs dry (which might not be for 6 months!!) buy another bottle! I LOVE wearing perfume and it’s something I enjoy spritzing every single day. Why deprive yourself of the luxury of smelling amazing?!
Invest in a few new Mugs and glasses which make you feel good when you drink out of them, it’s a simple trick but your morning coffee tastes so much better when you aren’t avoiding the chip in the rim! Also, upgrade your glasses to something fabulous and add a slice of cucumber, lemon or mint to your water whilst you are at it! As for your tea, ditch the supermarket own brand stuff and invest in Teapigs herbal teas!
Whilst you might not be able to buy your weekly shop at Waitrose, there are a few things in the supermarket your can scrimp on and other things you can splurge on. Personally, I love buying truffle oil to drizzle into my homemade soup. I love Lurpak or Brittany Butter on my bread and I love Pink Lady apples rather than an Gala. Oh and I love a specialist honey or Manuka honey on my porridge. Find the small changes which make shopping and eating at home feel so much more awesome!
‘Scents Of The House’
My boyfriend always teases me that I am in charge of ‘scents of the house’ because I’m constantly lighting candles and filling the rooms with diffusers and oil burners. There’s something so lovely about lighting a candle in the evening and watching it flicker whilst the room fills with scent. Similarly, I adore oil burners which really pump the scent into the room. You can use something uplifting in the morning to get you going and something soothing in the evening to wind you down. Either way, it’s good! Oh and if you find scented candles a little costly to burn regularly, then try an oil burner and essential oils, it’s SO much more affordable!
Unfollow, Defriend, Mute
Seriously, if you don’t want to follow someone, you don’t have to! Unfollow those people that make you feel bad about yourself, mute the ones that annoy you and defriend those bitches from high school that you were never really friends with anyway. And whilst we are at it, delete your ex’s from the list too! It doesn’t make you a ‘mature grown up’ by keeping them in your friends list, in reality it makes you feel self conscious and anxious about updating your status and that’s not good!
‘The Power Three’
What am I talking about when I say ‘The Power Three’? I’m talking about a good purse, handbag and keyring, these are the three things you use each and every time you leave the house, so you may as well make them good! I have a couple of sets of keys (I tend to miss-place them a lot) one has a Vivienne Westwood keyring, the other has a Radley Keyring, as for my purse, this is a Chanel Card holder and my handbags…. well, I have many, but that’s a story for another day!
Soundtracks & Stories
This is a big one for me, I HATE busy tubes, trains and buses, I honestly feel so much better when I have headphones in my ears blocking out the sound and filling my head with tunes and tales instead. I can’t afford to get cabs everywhere, but I can afford an Audible/spotify subscription and that’s pretty awesome! If you are looking for some new podcast recommendations, check out this post.
I hate cleaning and tidying. But I have to admit, even a 5 minute tidy up will make you feel better. Clear the surfaces, wash up the dishes, tidy up your bedroom. It doesn’t need to be a showhome to make you feel good, just a little tidy up will work wonders.
Fresh Towels, Clean Sheets
Again, I hate doing laundry and I hate changing bedding but it does make everything better. If you can’t remember when you last did it, to do it now! Oh and don’t by the supermarket own brand (unless you really like it), instead spend a couple more pounds on something which cleans your clothes better (oh hi Ariel!) or something which makes your soul feel good (I’m looking at your Ecover!)
I know it’s a cliche, but I don’t care what anyone says, a sh*t-hot new lipstick makes me feel so good! Not just good, but GREAT! Personally I love a jarring red which brightens up my face and just makes me feel like I own the freakin’ town! Charlotte Tilbury and Urban Decay are always favourites of mine!
There’s A Whole World Out There
Whilst I’m not telling you to quit your job and go to Bali for the next 6 months, it’s always nice to look forward to a holiday or trip. Chat to a buddy (or a boyfriend) about taking a few days off work and catching the Eurostar or a flight somewhere nice. Just a couple of days is enough to get away from reality and even if it’s not for another 3 months, it’s so nice to have a trip to look forward to!
