First of all, can I ask, where the ‘F’ has the year gone!?!?! I feel like I’m doing one of these posts every week, not every month! The time is racing buy!!! RACING! Anyhow, I’m back after what feels like a week, but is actually a month to give you more favourites… Y’all ready for this?
This month I watched Time: The Kalief Browder Story, one of the best things I have seen in AGES! It’s on Netflix and if you haven’t seen it already, you need to go and watch it! Also, I was massively late to the party with another Netflix series, The Keepers, so I am sure you have all seen it already, but if not, it’s time to go and watch it. Because that’s also amazing! Oh and finally, I loved The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson, which was beautiful but so sad sad, it reminded me a little of Paris Is Burning, as it focuses on the New York gay / trans scene of 80’s and 90’s. Also, I’m massively late to the party with this one, but I LOVED Iris, the documentary about the fabulous Iris Apfel.
Just a little home renovations update, I’m going to do a full post on this soon, but for now, the upstairs snug is starting to look super cute! I’ve filled with with beautiful cushions, cute furniture and a couple of house plants. I’m stating to see why everyone loves succulents so much, they barely take any effort to look after, although I had no idea how much it would cost to buy an army of house plants! SOS! I I hadn’t budgeted for this!
Elie Saab ‘Le Parfum’ Limited Edition
I’m a long time fan of Elie Saab’s iconic Le Parfum, it’s wonderfully solar with notes of sunshine, orange blossom, jasmine and cedarwood. It’s perfectly elegant, with a nod to the classic and a freshness of florals and sunshine. Whilst the juice is unchanged, the bottle has had a limited edition update which makes it a great excuse to indulge in a new bottle!
Charlotte Olympia Handbag
Oops! Look what I bought! I honestly didn’t mean to, but I couldn’t resist it! I have had my eye on this Charlotte Olympia bag for the longest time and when the opportunity arose, I took it! Isn’t it adorable?! Perhaps not the most practical bag I own, as it’s basically a wallet with a strap, but I love it regardless!
I have been munching on Hippeas for the past 6 months now, they are honestly one of the best alternatives to crisps I have ever found. They look a lot like Wotsit’s (remember them!?) but they are actually made from chickpeas so they are protein rather than carbs. I honestly munch on these all the time and I do it pretty much guilt free. Even my boyfriend picks up a bag of Hippeas over McCoy’s and not to be healthy, just because they taste so darn good! Most of their flavours are smoky themed around fajita, sweet ‘n’ smoky or tangy cheese, but their latest flavour is a little more classic, Salt & vinegar and I can confirm. It’s good! If you haven’t tried these, make sure you do. Honestly, one of the best snacks out there!
This month I stepped wayyyyy out of my comfort zone and created a video for Ecotools! I shot with my boyfriend and then hired my super talented friend Ashanti to edit it for me! I’m so happy with the results and it just goes to show, when you push yourself to do new things, you end up creating something you are super proud of! You can view it here, let me know what you think!
Hattie Stewart’s Doodlebomb Sticker Book
Ah! Artist Hattie Stewart is SO cool! I bloody love her doodles, she makes everything look awesome and she’s done so awesome projects, like when she doodled on ‘Love’ magazine, or helped to create the ‘Rookie’ Podcast logo, she does cool shiz, a testament to how much fun her art is. She’s just released Hattie Stewart’s Doodlebomb Sticker Book and it’s awesome. I’m so excited to finally get my office space sorted and stick her doodles all over my notebooks and filing draws, also, at £12, this book is GREAT value!
Espa Bath Soak
OK, so it looks kinda gross and murky, in fact the opposite of what you think you should be putting in a bath. But have faith, this Espa Bath Soak smells incredible, it’s super detoxifying and leaves skin feeling so soft and happy. It smells fresh like mandarins and bitter orange, but it also contains seaweed… which I guess accounts for the colour! Anyway, I love it!
This month I have listened to some pretty good audiobooks on Audible, I’m was particularly keen on The Girl Before and The Girlfriend, both from the psychological thriller section, but both kept me gripped and guessing till the end. The Girl Before was particularly interesting as it’s set in a house which is real, you can actually google it and see the building which is described perfectly throughout the book. I’m still on my free trial of Audible and you can get one too if you sign up here. Podcast wise, I have been binge listening to Dirty John which I LOVED, if you are a fan of S-Town or Serial, it has a similar production quality, super well researched and generally, just really amazing. Well worth listening too! I’ve also been listening to RuPaul: What’s The Tee?, which is lots of chatter and interviews with celebrity friends talking about pop culture, life, well-being and what-not. Really good and really insightful.
The Ordinary Serum Foundation
Once in a while, there is a beauty product launched which blows everyones minds. The Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette was one (ermm hello, those beautiful peach tones with a peach scent in the cutest case!). The Urban Decay Heat Palette was another (noone expected those burnt orange shades to look so darn good!) and The Ordinary Serum Foundation is another. I mean, there is a waiting list for this bad boy, the whole world has gone ape-sh*t over it and it’s not hard to see why. It glides on like a dream, gives a beautiful finish and it costs £5.70. I didn’t miss a digit off the front, it’s just a steal!
Bodyform have done some amazing things recently, firstly, they have donated over 200,000 packs of sanitary protection to food banks around the country to help eradicate period poverty. They have also created the UK’s first black pantyliner, seriously, why has it taken this long to do this!! Finally, their latest project is aimed at trying to normalise periods and make them less of a taboo subject. Personally, I find the fact that they are such a taboo subject an absolute joke. Half the bloody (pun intended!) world gets them, yet we are taught from a young age to be embarrassed of them, hide them and do our upmost to pretend we don’t even have them. Ridiculous!! Watch the vid, it’s brilliant and before you ask, this is NOT sponsored by Bodyform, I just really support all their amazing work!
Anya Hindmarch Boots
Despite constantly complaining about how little money I have thanks to renovations, I couldn’t resist popping along to the Anya Hindmarch sample sale to pick up a little treat for myself. Introducing the bloody fabulous Sticker boots… seriously!! I needed them!! Who needs a fridge when you have fabulous boots!?!
PUR Quick Pro Highlighter Kit
I have quite a few bits by PUR Minerals, I really like their foundations and base products, they are just really great no-nonesense pieces. However, their latest collection has more of a party mood, think super-shimmery eyeshadows, eye glitter and my personal favourite, the Quick Pro Highlighter Kit. This little beauty contains 6 shades of highlighter, all in varying shades of soft gold, champagne, silver toned gold and even a soft rose blush with gold tones. Just stunning! Such a fan of this palette! PS. Get 20% off all PUR products when you sign up to the mailing list.
Joan Collins Dry Oil Body Polish
Now that it’s well and truly winter, it’s been a while since I did any hardcore maintenance. I realised the other day that I couldn’t wear that top, because I had what can only be described as ‘winter pits’. Which is when I decided a serious de-fuzz and exfoliation was needed. I wish I hadn’t waited so long because Joan Collins Dry Oil Body Polish is an absolute treat! It smells like a dream (rich, elegant and fabulous, the way I imagine Joan herself would smell!) and it leaves my skin smooth and polished.
And there we have it… my October faves! A little late, but hopefully you guys can forgive me! xxx
