The Battenberg Lounge
I know what you’re thinking ‘How did you convince your boyfriend to paint the room pink and yellow?!’ well, it was actually really easy. I told him I wanted each wall to be a different pastel colour, he outright refused and we settled on two walls pink, two walls yellow. Does he like it? He loves it! I mean, who wouldn’t?! It’s just so cheerful! Let me show you around…
I think we all know coffee is very important to me, which is why I wanted to have a compact coffee maker here in the living room, so that I don’t have to get up and go to the kitchen for refills! We live by the sea so we have plenty of friends and family keen to come and visit us in the summer months, so I wanted to give my guests all the creature comforts close by in the mornings. My coffee maker is by Lavazza as they make amazing coffee with easy to use pods and a compact machine. Cute right?!
Both my boyfriend and I are quite visual people, so we really wanted to have a coffee table full of beautiful books which could be flicked through whenever we have down time or need a little inspo. Most of my books are from Very Exclusive, mainly because they have a brilliant selection and I love the way I can split my shopping bill over 3 monthly payments. Handy, right?!
We were lucky enough to find three great pieces of mid-century furniture for this room, firstly the sideboard above, which my boyfriend found on Ebay, I think with shipping it cost about £200, not the cheapest, but a steal compared to the modern remakes in the hughstreet stores right now (the ones we had seen were at least £500 upwards). In the images below you will be able to spot a second sideboard which has a record player and radio built into it. I LOVE this record player and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. It’s in full working order and it’s just such a great fun piece. I still can’t believe it only cost £150! Finally, the coffee table was our greatest bargain, I found it at our local British Heart foundation shop and it cost just £25.
Forgive me if you have seen this neon sign many, many times before, but damn… I love it and it’s such a focal point of the room! It’s from NotOnTheHighstreet.com and it just works perfectly in the room! It sits above my record player cabinet and it looks brilliant mounted onto our pink brick wall. I did a full post about it here… in case you are interested!
Cushions & Blankets
Anyone who knew me a few years ago will remember that I never had cushions on my sofa. I lived in a rental flat with a big comfortable leather sofa, but as far as I was concerned, no amount of cushions and blanket would make it look any cuter, nor make it any comfier. Then we got our own place and our own sofa and now I LOVE buying cushions and blankets! The furry one is by Sheridan, it’s so soft and luxe I adore it! The two yellow ones are from Next and the merino wool blanket is from Boden.
Trinkets, Candles & Ornaments
I am obsessed with buying beautiful ornaments! Again, I never used to do this when I was in a rental flat, but now I just want to look around and see beautiful things everywhere. It’s those little finishing touches, the gorgeous Fornasetti Candles, the cute succulents and the quirky shaped vases. I swear to god, I now find shopping for these things just as exciting as I used to find shopping for jewellery and shoes! Don’t worry, I still buy those items, but now I get to buy these things too… double the shopping!
Palms & Prints
Finally, let’s chat about these prints! I got them a while ago and I loved them but we never quite got around to hanging them up. Getting out the drill is a bit of a pain and I thought the room looked pretty great without them, but then they went up and BOOM! Everything changed! Again, they just finish the room nicely and if I ever get bored of these prints I can swap them for new ones, they are from Paperchase and they are really affordable and just really fun and cool!
Let me know what you think of my colourful home! All photos taken by Samantha Taylor.
